EXPERIENCE SUD TIROL

Italy’s northernmost province combines Alpine staidness with Italian joie-de-vivre, the Dolomites – a UNESCO World Heritage site – and cultural diversity. South Tyrol is a region abounding with contrasts, between Mediterranean landscape and Alpine peaks, deeply rooted tradition and cosmopolitan curiosity. The allure of South Tyrol lies in its variety and the harmony of opposites.

Valle Isarco/Eisacktal – This valley to the south of the Brennero/Brenner pass takes its name from the Isarco/Eisack, South Tyrol’s second longest river.

As long ago as the Middle Ages emperors, merchants and pilgrims stopped in Valle Isarco (Eisacktal in German) to revive before facing the strenuous journey south. The valley’s three small towns Vipiteno/Sterzing, Bressanone/Brixen and Chiusa/Klausen grew up in this period and today beckon with elegant shops, cultural treasures and cafes. Above all grapevines, apples and sweet chestnuts flourish on the steep slopes and in the valley floor, and all are savoured during the autumn tradition of “Törggelen” which originated in the Valle Isarco.
